In South Texas, they understand how vital port security is and fear the day when a weapon of mass destruction could be brought into a U.S. port in a container and cause hundreds of thousands of casualties. To counter this threat, The Department of Homeland Security has focused on detection devices that are large, expensive, use a large amount of energy, and cannot easily be placed in or on a shipping container.
However, art like life should not accommodate you, it should shatter you. It is meant to, and it couldn't do it better. Architecture is basically a container of something and every seed destroys its container or else there would be no fruition. Whether it is a Japanese air-plane 'eating' it's luggage container or the giant plastic containers of salty liquorice that are eagerly consumed on an annual basis by the Danish public. Is it better to be stepped on with spike heel or Nike shoe? If you know what you are going to do before you do it then is it not worth doing?

Komplot presents premiere of new video by Philippe Van Wolptutte at The Zero Budget Biennial, Paris.
Opening on September 5 until October 9 2009
Galerie Carlos Cardenas, Paris & Galerie Schleicher + Lange, Paris
Philippe Van Wolputte's video "Getting Over"(2009) is a remake of the opening scene of the independent movie "Wild Style", which tells the story of a graffiti writer in the south-Bronx during the early 80's. The opening scene of this movie was the only scene that director Charlie Ahearne could get the money together to do properly (legally), the rest of the film was done 'on the run' - without permission. For this reason Philippe Van Wolputte decided to redo this opening scene for The Zero Budget Biennial without any funds. Philippe Van Wolputte's art practice, like graffiti writers, deals with urban exploring, transect walks, climbing fences to get to abandoned places.
